Community Outreach Programs
This year our marketing team is making it a priority to schedule in some important Community Outreach programs, both within our school and community. With this outreach we are hoping to accomplish a few certain tasks, most of which geared toward the spread of STEM knowledge and appreciation in our community. We have started great connections with the other students in our high school, surrounding schools, and district that we have then used to communicate a positive STEM message. All of these things combined have not only provided a better understanding of STEM for those with whom we have worked, but also for ourselves.
Henry Middle School
FFL Coaching
We have helped to coach the local FFL Team across the street at Henry Middle School. We give them objectives to achieve with time limits and let them explore not only the world of robotics, but also themselves. They received advice on a robotic arm for their gameplay and a way to improve their marketing strategy. We had a great time and look forward to going back!
Vista Ridge High School
Trunk-Or-Treat
Wanting to be involved in our community robotics put together a Trunk-Or-Treat booth and handed out candy to kids at our school’s annual Trunk-Or-Treat. We dressed up like famous scientists pretending to be them while giving out candy so that the kids would be more familiar and think that science is cooler than what they originally thought. We also went far to represent our team to the other clubs at our school and made a name for ourselves by both rising above their expectations and working with everybody else to make a difference in our community.
Reagan Elementary
Science Fair Night
We were invited to come to the local Elementary school to talk to their students about STEM and our work with it through FIRST FTC. We had a 30 minute presentation to the students and their families on stage and then manned a booth for the remainder of the event so that people could come and interact with the robot and ask us questions. Overall we reached an estimated 300 elementary school kids and their families that night and were invited back when they do it again next year.
“Your team was great! Very enthusiastic and helpful. I think it was neat that elementary school students got a chance to look ahead to high school and see the robotics opportunities there. And the science night was such a hit that we're definitely planning on doing it again next year, so I'll be sure to contact you again about that. |
Stiles Middle School
Career Fair
On November 19th, we had a booth to man at Stiles Middle School regarding their Career Fair, we were there to represent what careers FIRST FTC prepares you for such as engineering, math, and technology (specifically for computer sciences). The kids were really excited to see a club like that in the presentation and we had many signups to get more information.
Vista Ridge High School
8th Grade Parent Night
On January 28th, our team represented the robotics program at Vista Ridge along with a few others from our sister teams. We talked with parents and students of those who will be feeding into Vista Ridge High School in the coming years about the merits of our program and what they can expect if they decide to join. We had an amazing amount of people sign up for more information and we will be inviting them to join us in a few weeks with more information.
